Modimolle traffic officers have intercepted and impounded a 22 seater
mini-bus that was transporting 56 illegal immigrants who were
travelling from Zimbabwe to Gauteng province.
Limpopo Transport and Community Safety MEC Makoma Makhurupetje has
commended the traffic officers saying overloading is a serious violation
of traffic laws and one of the causes of serious accidents on the
roads.
In September this year, traffic officers intercepted a truck carrying
87 illegal Malawians who were travelling to Durban through Polokwane.
The driver of the mini-bus has been arrested and is expected to appear in court soon.
Makhurupetje says the department of Home Affairs will attend to the issue of illegal immigrants accordingly
