It is believed Mighty Baloyi baby fell into a pit on Saturday and it took emergency services personnel two days to retrieve the body.
The Mopani District Municipality has launched an investigation to establish the circumstances around the borehole which was allegedly left uncovered in the yard of a local headman.
Police in Limpopo are also investigating an inquest case to determine the cause of death.
“Parents are urged to look after their children, especially the young ones as they constantly need supervision,” says police spokesperson Constable Maphure Manamela.
