The Limpopo department of Education says no school has the right to solicit money from learners for being absent from school.
This after three grade 12 learners at Magoza secondary school in Nkowankowa outside Tzaneen, were allegedly expelled from school by the principal during exams in June, for missing a day of school.
The learners say the principal allegedly told them to pay R100 in order to be accepted back at school, of which they refused.
They say when they attempted to go back to school this week, they were told the amount had increased to R1000.
The spokesperson for the department of Education Sam Makondo says they will request a report from the district office on the issue.
Makondo says should the principal be found guilty, further action will be taken.
