Polokwane Westernburg residents say they are furious as they continue to be excluded and marginalised.
The residents have on Tuesday barricaded corner Ben Harris street and
Matlala road with burning tyres and rocks, demanding that the local
contractor, Ndoni Projects, stops the services it installs on behalf of
the Polokwane municipality.
Schooling has been interrupted as some learners are unable to travel to their various schools.
Police are monitoring the situation while residents say they will
continue to cause disruptions until their local councillor addresses
their grievances and Ndoni includes locals in their project.
Community members say they are unhappy about poor infrastructure,
lack of jobs, lack of skills development and land claim processes.
On Monday, Community Liason Officer and a beneficiary from Ndoni
Projects Ben Rametse said the project has employed 19 people from the
local communities and only 10 people were brought in from outside.
Rametse says they will allow the community the opportunity to express
their grievances but have however ensured that everyone who is supposed
to benefit from the project do so legally.
