Duduzane Zuma hands himself over prior to court appearance on corruption charges with Gupta Family

Duduzane Zuma has handed himself over to police at the Johannesburg Central Police Station ahead of his appearance at the Specialised Crimes Court later this morning.

Duduzane is facing corruption charges linked to a multi-million rand offer allegedly made to former deputy finance minister Mcebisi Jonas on behalf of the Gupta family. His lawyer has confirmed that he will apply for bail.

According to Jonas, Duduzane was present at a meeting at the Gupta family's Saxonwold compound in 2016 when he was offered a R600 million bribe, as well as the position of finance minister. The allegations also formed part of then-Public Protector Thuli Madonsela's State of Capture report, which also stated that Ajay Gupta had allegedly told Jonas that the Gupta family had made Duduzane a billionaire.

Former president Jacob Zuma's son is due to appear in another Gauteng court on Thursday on charges of culpable homicide. The matter is related to an inquest in 2014 found Duduzane negligent in an accident that claimed the life of Phumzile Dube on February 1 that year. Zuma was found to have recklessly crashed his Porsche 911 into the back of a minibus taxi, causing the fatal crash.
